SRK’s Mesmerizing ‘Challa’ In ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ – What Are You Searching For?

SRK: An ex-army man, leading a double life in London, must choose between his wife and muse.
A Yash Chopra film, directed by Yash Chopra, written by Devika Bhagat, staring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ has also brought together the award winning pair of A R Rahman and Gulzar.
‘Challa’ from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, is one of the many songs of SRK very similar to KANK.
Sporting a casual look of a man in his 20’s, SRK is seen, strumming a guitar on the streets of London, working at a car wash and at the vegetable market, trying to make ends meet. The song is meant to be a lively and cheerful.
Trying to lure the audience into believing, that the character is living to his fullest, when he suddenly faces Katrina and is forced to re-think everything he knows, the song doesn’t seem to match the persona that SRK is trying very hard to create.
With SRK, a typical Yash Raj movie, JTHJ a movie, where the hero is torn between his wife and the muse, and must make the choice, something that the Yash Raj group is so use to portraying. Are we ready to face this dilemma, where we struggle for new edged cinema, or do we still need the same plots in this day and age, as we enjoyed in the 90’s?
The movie’s release coincides with the 50th anniversary of Yash Chopra’s career in Bollywood. This movie marks the return of Yash Chopra as a director after a gap of 8 years, his last film being Veer-Zaara.
The lyrics written by Gulzar in Punjabi, music given by A R Rahman and sung by Rabbi, has all that it takes in getting the popularity votes of the masses and making into the top 10 of the popularity charts.
Well we hope that since this is the last Yash Chopra-SRK movie that we would see, they are able to create the same aura as they did when they started working together in 1996 – with DDLJ where the industry saw the debut of Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj banner, who then went ahead and Chopra casted SRK for his own film – Dil To Pagal Hai.
JAB TAK HAI JAAN is releasing on November 13th 2012.

Exactly. A 20 years old ex-army man?! Really?! I don't like the ironic overtone of the article either. It seems someone had read the fake movie synopsis at Wikipedia/IMBD, threw some scenes from the promo & made a ridiculous article out of it.
Prerna Dewan and rubyroo thank this.

Watch: A younger Shahrukh Khan woos with 'Challa' in 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', in HD

The first track “Challa” from one of the most talked-about films of the year, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” is out. The announcement and the video link were shared by Shahrukh Khan himself on Twitter on Monday, October 01, 2012.
The Punjabi track is sung by the popular Rabbi Shergill of “Bulla Ki Jaana Re” fame. The lyrics are by Gulzar and the music is composed by the internationally-acclaimed A R Rahman.
“Challa” opens up with a younger Shahrukh dressed in a plaid shirt, jeans and a quilted vest strumming an acoustic guitar on the streets of London.
He portrays the authentic Punjabi lyrics with his signature style and panache and injects vigor on screen with his presence.
Although the song highlights Shahrukh’s star quality, yet, the star looks uncomfortable and hesitant with the guitar. However, the treatment of a quintessential Yash Chopra movie makes up for it keeping things beautiful and picture-perfect. Shots of the Trafalgar Square and the city enthrall viewers and take them on a pictorial rendezvous.
Video: Challa from Shahrukh Khan's Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Katrina Kaif makes a brief appearance towards the end, when she drops a coin as King Khan croons. Although the two share a brief glance, what transpires between them is predictable for ardent Bollywood fans.
Although the lyrics are thought-provoking, the Rabbi Shergill for Shahrukh Khan combo will take a while to get adapted to. After all, fans have been treated to the magical duo of Shahrukh Khan and Sonu Niggam for years now.
"Challa" is Yash Chopra's favorite song from the movie. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, he told Shahrukh Khan while in conversation with him, "This is my favorite song and it is your song in the film. It is the soul of the film - you belong to everybody but nobody is yours.
This song is in Punjabi language and it has been sung beautifully by Rabbi Shergill. Gulzar Saheb has written the lovely lyrics.
He has given words to my vision. Working with AR Rahman and Gulzar, is like working with magicians."

It's an online frenzy! SRK's Challa song nets 25,000 YouTube hits within hours of release

The first song of Yash Chopra's hyped Diwali release, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was launched on YouTube on Monday. The number featuring Shah Rukh Khan created a frenzy online in no time, garnering over 25,000 hits in a few hours.
The song, 'Chhalla', sees SRK strumming a guitar as he roams around the scenic hubs of London. It ends with the actor coming face to face with Katrina Kaif, leaving room for ample drama.
'Chhalla' has been sung by Rabbi Shergill and bears the sufi singer's trademark style. The music of the film is composed by A.R. Rahman and the lyrics are by Gulzar.

The song received a mixed response from listeners both on YouTube and Facebook. While most reactions are positive and there were close to 6,000 likes within no time, many others have pointed at how the song seems like a peppy update on Rabbi's biggest hit till date, 'Bulla', which released in 2004.
'SRK is back as Raj with a guitar, which is best suited on him,' wrote a netizen Yaman.
On the other hand, another netizen Wafique on YouTube was less impressed: 'Rabbi's voice is not matching with SRK who is lip (sic) syncing it. The song is similar to 'Bulla Ki Jaana'.'

Over 25,000 hits in a few hours.
Eighty-year-old veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra has declared that Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be his last film as a director adding that 'Chhalla' is his 'favourite song in the film.
'This is my favourite song and it is your song in the film. It is the soul of the film, you belong to everybody but nobody is yours. This song is in Punjabi language and it has been sung beautifully by Rabbi Shergill. Gulzar saheb has written the lovely lyrics. He has given words to my vision,' he told Shah Rukh Khan in a televised conversation on his 80th birthday last week.
'Working with A.R. Rahman and Gulzar is like working with magicians,' the veteran film-maker said.
Shah Rukh's return in a romantic avatar in this film has already created quite a buzz.
The film, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, is said to be based on Yash Chopra's 1973 hit, Daag.
Recently, Chopra confirmed that he would be shooting a signature song featuring Katrina in a chiffon saree with Shah Rukh in the Swiss Alps for the movie.
