Can anyone tell me why Devi's marriage was called off after she had saved Asoka from being murdered? Is there something in the culture that makes a girl unmarriageable if she had "blood on her hands?" I would have thought everyone would be happy she had saved the prince but that did not seem to be the case. I was just curious if there is cultural or just a turn in the script. Thanks.

I think it had to do with her religion. She is a Buddhist and I assume that to kill a life, using violence, be it defense or not, is considered as a tabu or sin. She "dirtied" herself with blood... I might be wrong though.
