Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan was presented with a rare species of
an orchid, which was named Ascocenda Shahrukh Khan, in Singapore on
Saturday.

Asked how he felt having an orchid named after him, Shahrukh
joked: "I'm just happy it wasn't a watermelon or a mango. It's a
great honour."

Shahrukh was in Singapore for the Shahrukh Khan: Live In Singapore
concert, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 30th. His co-
stars in the show, Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan, accompanied
Shahrukh. Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra was also supposed to
perform in the event.

Addressing a press conference on the 69th floor of Swissotel The
Stamford, Shahrukh apologised to his fans in advance for having to
limit his dancing at the show since he had hurt his back last year.

When asked if he thought cinema could mend the rift between India
and Pakistan, Shahrukh said: "I work hard for all fans. To me, we
are one country, not two. And I hate any Indian film that puts down
Islam or Muslims."

Concert Updates

Shahrukh Khan made his entrance in a cherry picker, reeling off
jokes after a string of songs from his latest film, Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Saif Khan rose from an underground hydraulic lift as a Michael
Jackson incarnation. And did flashy dance moves.

Priyanka Chopra and Rani Mukherjee flew into the spotlight
separately, arriving on a sedan chair and a swing respectively.

Orchids, orchids everywhere

At Singapore's National Orchid Garden, you'll need all the time in the world
to admire a flower so delicate and pretty

Pic
(Eye-catching - A yellow beauty named after Shah Rukh Khan)

This orchid is a light brownish orange with a blush of purple, and forms part
of a spray 60 cm long. And, is named Dendrobium Amitabh Bachchan.

Another's character is true to the person it is named after:
Ascocenda Shahrukh Khan. It flowers with vigour, and puts out blooms
that are a passionate red-orange.

There's the pic I was searching for...
Can someone please add the pic for me??? :help:

Flowers Named After People

http://nvkumar.wordpress.com/2008/03/20/flowers-named-after-people/

Many Flowers are named after the people who introduced them. The bougainvillea, for example, was named after French admiral, Louis de Bougainvillea, who discovered the vine growing in Brazil during a long journey to the Pacific Ocean in 1768. Narcissus, in Greek mythology, was a handsome youth who disdainfully spurned the love of the nymph Echo. The goddess Aphrodite punished him by making him fall in love with his own reflection in a pool. Unable to possess the image in the water he pined away and become the flower that now bears his name.
The marigold that is woven into garlands for pujas was earlier called Mary’s Gold after Virgin Mary.
Begonia was named after Michel Begon, a governor of French Canada, while Zinnia got its name from Hohann Gottfried Zinn, a professor of botany in Gottingen, Germany.
The Marilyn Monroe rose is an apricot colored hybrid rose. It was named after the popular actress of the last century, Marilyn Monroe.
Julie Andrews is the name of a coral-salmon hybrid rose. It was named after actress Julie Andrews of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins fame.
The Netherlands named a special variety of Tulip after Bollywood beauty and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, in 2005.
The Singapore government named a rare species of orchid Ascocenda Shahrukh Khan after Bollywood superstar, Shahrukh Khan. The Big B also has an orchid named after him. It’s a light brownish orange orchid with a pale yellowish green and red centre. It was named Dendrobium Amitabh Bachchan. The unusual orchids grow alongside orchids named after Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth in Singapore’s Botanical Garden.

Ascocenda sounds like ascending, and always rising higher. Dendrobium, sounds like some long boring monotonous drone. On account of which, I think these names are well suited.:D

Thanks for the pics and articles.:)
