But they ARE the same film! The money goes to the same producers under the same product...
It isn't the same. Strictly speaking the hindi version is competing with the other bollywood releases whilst the regional version of the movie is dubbed in another language (tamil/telegu) so is counted as a different film and is competing with the films of that regional language not bollywood films. Otherwise by your logic, a hollywood film's collections around the rest of the world must also be added to what it collects at the Indian box office and thus hollywood films will displace all bollywood films as the highest grossers in India. That is why the regional collections and hindi collections of a bollywood movie (say ra.one) are reported separately but a lot of reporters ignore that and give a combined collection of the two.
I feel that we speak different languages. Well, you like to consider that Ra.1 has earned a little, and I like to count all money that he has earned.
This is just about box office collections not considerations
really you lost me.. i didnt understand
anyway... by this logic of dubbed movies to be different movies
is the film dubbed in German and other languages consider to be a different film than what released in other overseas countries and the overseas outcome had to be separated too?
Yeah, now this is getting rerally odd for me this discussion.. Why on earth should HW films be calculated together with Indian films, if we are talking about the collection of Indian films! And when we talk about Indian films or BW films, then we are not intereested in films from other countries. But if we want to make analogies, in some countries all the foreign language films are always dubbed to that lsngusge... Do they mnot count the collections of those countries to the total collections of a HW blockbuster? Of course they do.. What would be the logic of counting the BO of, say, Finland (because we always have subs) but not Germany (cause they are duvbed), especially since the population of Germany is something like 18 times more, so most likely the film also has more viewers and will make more money there...
It shouldn't be an issue with which any film "competes" but rathere, is it the same film! Especially since a film is always a unique product. Say a remake of a south film in BW is not the same film, but if the original south film is dubved to Hindi, then it's the same film...
I don't really agree with the obsession of BO, especially since it goes so far, that it is used as the only Measure of success.. I have rrecently used many times the comparison between DDLJ and Salman's recent hits.. At the time when DDLJ was released the ticket prices re from snother world and there weren't as many theatres and the films didn't release with as many copies as today.. But if you compare the success of thise two films only based on rupees, doesn't it make the competitn just wrong...?
In the vision of BoxofficeIndia.com, they only compare and thus rank the Hindi version of a film considering that most of the film put in comparison (BG, Ready, 3i, Singham) only have the Hindi release and they weren't dubbed, now only the Hindi version of Ra.One made 200crores, and the regional version made a NETT gross pf abt 9 (that's tax free) and those dubbed versions were released in the overseas as well, so 240crores is very logical.
If the dubbed version is regarded as a seperate film, technically srk could/should have 3 nominations in the best actor category for awards where he has been nominated.

“Don 2” is still running in its 5th week with decent no. of shows but its collections almost over. Now it is running with increased no. of shows in 5th week in comparison to 4th week because there was no new release this week.
It will though help the movie to cross 230 cr gross to become 2nd highest worldwide grosser of 2011 as it is only couple of crore short.
Shahrukh Khan is the only actor who has given 3 back to back 200 cr+ films (worldwide gross).

I am happy that at last don 2 became 2nd highest grosser of 2011. Ra.one is also releasing in taiwan on 3rd feb 2012.
Here is the article :
So finally the day is here for which millions of SRK fans were waiting for. As per latest collections available with our sources, “Don 2’ is finally highest grosser in overseas in 2011 and no. 2 in worldwide collections.
“Don 2” already became highest grosser in markets like North America, Fiji/Australia and Pakistan etc. Now after running in theaters for a month, it has broken the record of “Bodyguard” worldwide gross and only 10 crore short of 240 crore gross of “Ra.one”.
Now SRK has no. as well as no. 2 movie of 2011 and Salman is closely placed on no. 3 and 4 with “Bodyguard” and “Ready” respectively. This speaks volume about his popularity overseas and worldwide especially when his critics had panned both of his films in India.
Now Shahrukh is the only star to have 3 back to back 200 plus grosser in “MNIK”, “Ra.One” and “Don 2”. This also proves that no matter what critics write and say but public is the supreme judge. Folowing are the top grosser of 2011 –
Collections (worldwide gross)
Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara
(*still to be released in more markets)
“Ra.One” and “Don 2” both will be releasing in 40 plus overseas countries from next month and it will be interesting to see at what figures these films end their lifetime collections. As per trade experts, “Don 2” should cross at least 270 cr mark by the end of its run.
