B.O. update: 'Don 2' superb at plexes, O'seas huge
    By Taran Adarsh, December 23, 2011 - 19:27 IST
    [IMG]
Now here's the latest picture on DON 2 in India and Overseas. ONLY on Bollywood Hungama…
The much-awaited DON 2 opened to a fabulous response at multiplexes at several centres in India. The widest release ever [3105 screens in India], the film embarked on a strong start from morning shows itself, garnering 100% figures at several screens, although a few plexes were in 70% to 80% range. The overall occupancy at plexes was 70%, as on Friday evening. There were brisk block bookings for evening and night shows at major multiplex chains, which will add to a fat total on Friday.
The single screens, however, were not too receptive in some circuits. Perhaps, the absence of a hit track [like 'Chammak Challo' in RA.ONE and 'Ooh La La' in THE DIRTY PICTURE] could be one of the main reasons behind it. But the writer spoke to several exhibitors across the country, who were optimistic of the business picking up in the evening/night shows.
Day 1 [Friday], as per early estimates, is likely to close at Rs 15 cr + nett figure.
Internationally too, DON 2 had a wide release [690 screens in 41 countries], with the film opening a day earlier in several markets. The response was terrific, especially in Middle East. Here are the day-wise figures of DON 2 in some key markets, exclusively on Bollywood Hungama:-
    UK
    Wednesday: £ 117,138
    Thursday: £ 86,675
    Total: £ 203,813
    Australia
    Thursday: A$ 28,244
    New Zealand
    Thursday: NZ$ 15,118
Middle East [incl UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Muscat, Kuwait]
    Thursday: $ 385,000

    Don 2 First Day Business

    Saturday 24th December 2011 11.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Don 2 has had a very good first day of around 13.50 crore nett in Hindi with another 60-70 lakhs coming from the dubbed versions as per early estimates.

It is the fourth highest opening day in history and the second highest non holiday first day after Dabangg. The film will be dependent on trending and with mass centres under performing there is potential for good growth over the weekend but the problem may be content not going down too well in these areas.

The urban multiplexes have done extremely well but are unlikely to grow much as they are at very high levels on day one so a big final total is dependent on how the mass centres perform over the next few days.

The film has performed best in West Bengal and South but none of the circuits apart from Mysore have put up very huge numbers because of the mass centres under performing. Mysore has hardly any mass centres. In UP only Lucknow has performed well, in Rajasthan, the contribution is mainly from Jaipur while in East Punjab only Gurgaon and Chandigarh put up big numbers.

At 14 Cr Plus, Don 2 Is Third-Highest Grosser 2011

by Shabdita Shrivastav (December 24, 2011)
Despite the flak over its content, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don 2 has stormed the box office, collecting over Rs 14 crore plus on its opening day. And with the numbers it has clocked, the film has secured its place as the year’s third-highest grosser so far. Considering the thumping response and the festive mood of the audience, tradewallahs believe the film will register even better numbers on Day 2.

On opening day yesterday, Don 2 registered its best figures in Mumbai, where Hemant Shah of Tilak Enterprises says, “The first-day collection of Don 2 in Mumbai were Rs 4.5 crore whereas all-India, it collected Rs 14-15 crore plus. The film is going strong in its second day.”
In Delhi, G D Mehta of Bobby Arts International says the film has mesmerised the audience, adding that it collected Rs 2 crore on its first day in the region. “The weekend looks very promising.”

In Punjab, there were apprehensions that the cold weather would play spoilsport. However, Surender Saluja of Lakshaya Movies says the film did business worth Rs 1.15 crore in the territory on day one. “The morning shows today received an average response due to the weather but the evening and night shows will definitely pick up.”
In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films says Don 2 registered Rs 60 lakh in the region on Friday. “The 2D version of the film is more popular than the 3D version. Don 2 will close this year on a positive note,” he adds.
In CI, the film collected Rs 50 lakh on Friday and today’s collections are expected to the around the same, according to Ashok Choudhary of Neha Movies. “Having had a stable second day opening, the festive weekend looks promising,” he says.
In Nizam, Ravi Machchar of Sahyog Films says, “The Hindi version of the film collected Rs 1 crore in the Nizam circuit yesterday, while the Telugu version managed Rs 43 lakh. Don 2 closed its opening day at Rs 14.75 crore domestically. Collectively, the film is being screened at 280 Telugu and Hindi screens.”
In Orissa Jeetu Khandelwal of Pioneers Movie is very upbeat. “The film has taken the ticket windows by storm. The first day collections were Rs 15-16 lakh here and the second-day opening was even stronger than yesterday.”
In Mysore, B H Basha of Bahar Enterprises concludes, “Don 2 collected Rs 85 lakh on day one and opened to astonishing numbers today as well. The audience loves the second 3D outing by Shah Rukh Khan.”

Shahrukh Khan’s 'Don 2' takes Box Office by storm
'Don 2' rakes in Rs. 15 crore on the opening day; collections likely to go up further ..

It is surely going to be a very merry Christmas for Shahrukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani as their film Don 2 opened to a very good response at box office.

Released at 3105 screens (including 550 3D screens), the film raked in Rs. 15 crore nett on its opening day, despite Friday being a working day. The Christmas weekend will ensure a further spike in the collections and the estimates say the film might fare somewhere between Rs. 45-55 crore in its first weekend, which is exceptional. What remains to be seen is whether Don 2 manages to make more that Rs. 22.80 crore in any single day, a record (of highest single day collection for a Bollywood film) held by Shahrukh Khan’s previous release Ra.One.

Despite mixed critical reviews, the audience response has ranged between 70 to 90 percent at multiplexes. Some centres even ran housefull. The response, however, isn’t that terrific at single screens. It has ranged between 60 to 70 percent.

At overseas box office, the response to Don 2 has been very good. The film released in UK on Wednesday and made £202,000 in its first two days. The response was still better in the Middle East where the film made $385,000. It is expected that the total overseas collection of Don 2 might be in the range of Rs. 35 crore.

A merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Shahrukh Khan and the Don team.
