CHAK DE INDIA does a GADAR August 27, 2007 7:45:26 PM IST Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network No, in spite of being a smash hit the film is, it is not eventually going to be end up with an 'All Time Blockbuster' tag. But the story is similar when it comes to the music sales of both the movies. Readers may remember that when the music of Uttam Singh composed GADAR - EK PREM KATHA was released, there weren't many who were excited about the soundtrack in the initial hearing. There wasn't much pick up in the CD/cassette sales and except of 'Main Nikla Gaddi Leke', there wasn't any other track which came with a chartbuster stamp. The film's release changed it all though. As people watched the film in lakhs across the country in the first fortnight, the music also saw a twist in the fortunes with the track 'Ud Jaa Kaale Kaanwa' working excellently with the film's narrative. A couple of other songs too caught the fancy of the music lovers and within no time there were brisk sales all over for CDs and cassettes. The film's stupendous success resulted in the music turning out to be one of the Top-5 selling albums of 2001 with as many as 25 lakh units being sold. Now CHAK DE INDIA too is following a similar trend. After a lukewarm response to the music when it hit the stands, the sales have shown a rapid escalation ever since the film released more than a fortnight back. The music has already entered the Top-3 charts of the seasons and has stayed on to be consistent there. Though earlier it seemed that the album was only about the title song 'Chak De India' sung by Sukhwinder Singh, there are other theme tracks like 'Baadal Pe' and 'Ek Hockey Doongi' that have caught fancy of the listeners who have already caught the film. Composed by Salim Sulaiman, the soundtrack of CHAK DE INDIA is turning out to be a winner and all set to be one of the best selling albums of the season, if not the year.
