Shah Rukh Khan enthrals fans with his much-awaited visit
By: PTI Date: 2012-02-13 Place: Berlin

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan electrified his fans at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival last night by attending the international premiere of his last release "Don - The King is Back", the first Bollywood production filmed to a large extent here.

Braving freezing temperatures, hundreds of his fans waited for several hours outside the Friedrichstadt Palace theatre to catch a glimpse of their film idol and they gave him a rapturous welcome as he appeared before them, ending several days speculation about his participation.

Amidst shouts of "Shah Rukh, we love you", the 46-year-old actor walked along the red carpet and spent a few minutes chatting with his fans, shaking hands and signing autographs. Over 1,800 film enthusiasts greeted Khan with a standing ovation inside Berlin's largest cinema as he came on the stage to introduce his film.

Responding to their cheers, he told them he is quite delighted to be back at the Berlinale after attending the European premiere of his film "Om Shanti Om" in 2008.

Khan, who plays the titular character in the 140-minute action-thriller, was later joined by co-actress Priyanka Chopra, director Farhan Akhtar, producer Ritesh Sidhwani, German actor Florian Lukas and some other members of its cast and crew.

Berlin film festival organisers and many of Khan's fans were disappointed when he on Wednesday unexpectedly cancelled his trip to Berlin. He had told his fans through Twitter that he is recovering from fever and his doctors' advised him against travelling to Berlin, according to the festival organisers.

However, festival director Dieter Kosslick announced at the gala opening of the ten-day film festival on Thursday night that he had just received a confirmation from Khan in Mumbai that he will be present at Saturday's premiere of "Don2".

Khan's PR agents at the Berlinale told PTI that he will be in Berlin only for a day. Besides attending the premiere of "Don2", he has no other official itinerary in Berlin and he will be returning to Mumbai on Sunday.

Shahrukh Khan walks Berlinale red carpet with wife Gauri

The Bollywood badshah finally graced the city of Berlin with his royal presence to the extreme satisfaction of his fans. It happens at times. You acquire a glow after having braved a serious bout of cold and Flu. King Khan looked smart and cheerful while he walked the red carpet at Friedrichstadt-Palast, the venue of the DON 2 Berlinale premiere, in Berlin. He wore a formal Tuxedo, and looked healthier and heartier than ever before. Was it the effect of his autograph seeking fans who turned up in good numbers to cheer for him and to attend the film's screening at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival?

The King arrived in Berlin in style by a chartered flight following his advance guard Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, and Priyanka Chopra. He was not alone. Gauri Khan was with him as well at the Red Carpet in her smart red dress, looking ever youthful and 'fighting' fit. She could not have allowed her recuperating darling of a husband and doting father of her children to be all by himself in an extraordinarily cold Berlin weather. And what can be warmer than a caring, admiring, and beautiful wife next to you in these conditions to provide you the mandatory medicinal doses and to ensure that you have the muffler tightly tied around your neck.

Shahrukh Khan walks Berlinale red carpet with wife Gauri

Monday, February 13, 2012 11:20:33 AM (IST) | Rajesh Kumar Singh, Bollywood Trade Editorial

Surprisingly, King Khan did not join the rest of the DON 2 team on the Red Carpet at the Berlinale Special gala event at the Friedrichstadt-Palast and reached the venue much after the screening had begun with his wife Gauri and Reliance head honcho Amit Khanna. The reason given was that the chartered plane of the King took its own time to land at Berlin airport. He appeared on the stage after the screening with Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick. He performed his regulation DON 2 act, inviting others to repeat his moves. Everyone did it but for the film’s lead actress Priyanka Chopra, who acted coy, and refused to dance to SRK’s tune.

The Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick danced with even greater enthusiasm than the rest, expertly performing a Bollywood dance. Now we know why everyone finds him funny and the reasons behind his universal popularity. The festival director represents the quintessential Berlinale spirit, informal, free, openhearted, welcoming, likeable, accommodative, and heart-warming.

Shahrukh Khan features in Berlinale closing ceremony too

    February 20, 2012 12:07:49 PM IST
    Rajesh Kumar Singh, Glamsham Editorial

No Indian film star has ever dominated an International Film Festival the way the Badshah of Bollywood did at Berlinale even without being there. Aamir Khan should be justifiably jealous. In spite of doing the grueling Jury duty last year, the wizard of buzz and hype could not do what Shahrukh Khan achieved in his 2 hour appearance here.

The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) saw SRK's name mentioned and discussed in the festival's opening ceremony with the fest director, Dieter Kosslick sending flying kisses and 'Shahrukh we love you' message from the stage. Next he was seen taking dancing lessons from SRK at the end of DON 2 screening and shaking his leg and waist with childlike abandon.

If we thought that the Shahrukh and Berlinale saga had finally come to an end after his film's pathetic performance at the German box office, we were mistaken.

The picture was not over yet. How seriously SRK's DON 2 dancing lessons were taken became amply evident in the closing ceremony of Berlinale as well when the effervescent Berlinale director tried to do a coordinated duet with the hostess Anke Engelke. One of the DON 2 tunes was properly played, but Anke could not match steps with Kosslick, who did his Guru SRK proud by performing his signature 'ek haanth aage aur ek haanth peeche' move to perfection.

What the super-inventive and resourceful Mr. Kosslick should do next is to curate a special section on films from the Bollywood Dream Factory in the 63rd edition of Berlinale. This can be done on the lines of the Red Dream Factory package this year. The screenings can be supplemented by Bollywood film appreciation seminars and discussions. The Indian film industry will welcome such a move whole-heartedly and send a really good selection of films that represent Indian cinema in its full glory. Of course, DON 2 will not be in the package with its dubious lineage since it is neither Indian nor 'phoren' cinema and is more a film from the nowhere land.
    Rayhana and MaryAnnK thank this.

This guy hates Shah Rukh. He wrote about the stupidity Ra.1 now about Don-2. The unfortunate loser does not realize that Shahrukh opens the door to Europe for Indian films, but not such fools as he.

Well, I think it is obvious in Europe (except for UK maybe) the Bollywood movies are niche and so there is no chance for them to beat Hollywood ones at the BO.
    This guy is an idiot.

This no one Rajesh Kumar Singh from Glamsham can keep his view point to him self as we all know the piture speaks a 100 words and we saw that when our KING arrived at Berlin this year....As we said in the past that people keep using our beloved SRK's name to sell the story and more eye balls that's all. These type of article does not bother me any more. Instead i feel sorry for these people including the one from CNN-IBN - some Chatterji girl who said "Goodbye" to SRK in her article and shared it in twitter...oh well i did not even know who she was until she used word "SRK". SRK keeps getting more endorsement than any other BW actor, he has got IPL going for him, He has some good film projects on hand, his family life is fantastic so what else these jelous media wants from him?? He is the only star who give the decent interviews...while others can barely talk...and he continue to get invite to host all major award shows and events....if he is not pulling TRPs for TV channels, they would not call him to HOST - so SRK is here to stay and keep going and giving his fan more than we expect! Love SRK and rest can go to ****
    RizwanaShahrukh and L.O.V.E. thank this.
  12. Yeh Dil

Yeh Dil He is my live

In the BO in Germany are very few films. My name is Khan, RBDJ, Billu ...
This is because films - like Ra.One only premiere - were shown excluded from the normal weekly movie program. I do not know how it is with DON2. It runs in Germany only for a week.

thanks for explaining. i just realised now i repeated myself in the above post.

Bijal you're right. we should just ignore them. but it does hurt anyway...cos stupids like chatterji write those kinds of articles to indulge the haters & naysayers more with their negative campaign against SRK.
it just makes me so angry!! so much hate for a man just cos he has been successful & for so long and they cant take it anymore. doesnt make sense.
