I think this is a good thing (the date being more than 2 years away) as they need to get the VFX right, clearly that is going to play a big part in making SRK into a dwarf and it needs to be consistent. In FAN, the vfx was inconsistent, i think SRK wants to avoid that again.

Benjamin Button team to work on Shah Rukh Khan’s look

Aanand L. Rai will seek the expertise of the Hollywood team to work on the look for SRK who plays a dwarf in his film.
    Shah Rukh Khan
The last five years or so have been witness to a massive leap in technology in Bollywood. Following close on the heels of its Western counterpart, the Hindi film industry has pulled its socks and the quality of VFX here can now be compared to global standards.

Cashing in on the technological high is filmmaker Anand L. Rai who has already started working on the most challenging project of his career. The film, which stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, will see the actor play a dwarf and calls for some very advanced visual effects.

In a recent interview, SRK said that if his team gets the VFX right in Anand’s film, it would be path-breaking for the industry. The VFX done by his company Red Chillies in films like Krissh, Ra.One, Fan, and Chennai Express has been heavily appreciated. Things are set to take a big turn for Anand’s film as the team that worked in the Brad Pitt-starrer The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, has been roped in.

A source close to the project said, “Yes, work on SRK’s look has already started and Anand will invest a lot of time with Khan’s VFX team as well. The pre-production will take a lot of time but they have enough time before the film goes on floors.”

In the Brad Pitt starrer, the actor had not done a live shoot for the portions at the start of the film — it was all achieved through VFX. In fact, it was another actor who enacted those scenes in front of the camera and later, his face was replaced with Brad’s.

Later Brad recorded his voice and expressions in a separate set up comprising 25 cameras which allowed frame by frame tracking. The source adds, “For Anand, it is all about storytelling and the VFX will work in such a way that it doesn’t come in the way of his shooting style. The Hollywood team will present him with many options and after discussing it with SRK and his VFX team, a final call will be taken. But this is something that has never been done in India and everyone is excited.”

Too far away! But really looking forward to this. Good director and SRK in a very interesting role. The wait will be much easier if he has another film between the imtiaz film and this.

Bandhua: Shah Rukh Khan's dwarf film with Aanand L Rai gets working title
Bandhua directed by Raanjhana's Aanand L Rai will see Shah Rukh Khan play a midget.

    New Delhi, September 4, 2016 | UPDATED 12:28 IST

Shah Rukh Khan is set to embrace his most challenging role yet, that of a midget in Aanand L Rai's next. And if sources close to the movie and reports according to major publications are to be believed, the film even has a working title now. The film will be called Bandhua.

The film will see some Red Chillies VFX set a benchmark for Bollywood with reports that the film is budgeted at a lavish Rs 150 crores. Aanand L Rai has seen major success in Sonam Kapoor's Raanjhana, Tanu Weds Manu returns, both of which grossed more than Rs 100 crores along with getting critical acclaim amongst the masses.

Bandhua has Deepika Padukone as the film's leading lady, we will have to wait and see if she too is playing a midget in the film. The film already has a release date that has been announced in 21 December, 2018 and blocked a Christmas release for Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan has a string of interesting projects lined up over the next two years where he will appear in Rahul Dholakia's Raees, Imtiaz Ali's The Ring, Aanand L Rai's Bandhua and also a film with Aditya Chopra which is still under wraps.

    phul and rollercoast thank this.

Next stop Meerut! Yes that’s where Shah Rukh Khan express will halt next
Shah Rukh Khan will next head to Meerut, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, to shoot his next untitled Aanand L Rai film
By Soumyata Chauhan | Published: November 4, 2016 8:56 am

As informed earlier, after completing the foreign schedule of Imtiaz Ali’s The Ring, for which the film’s cast has been in the European continent for around two months, Shah Rukh Khan has come to Mumbai to finish the last leg of the film. The Mumbai schedule is going to begin sometime in November and is said to go till the end of December.

While Shah Rukh Khan is wrapping up Imtiaz Ali’s The Ring, preperations for his next film have already begun. As per a report in a tabloid, director Aanand L Rai is gearing up for his yet-to-be-titled film. The film will tell an unusual love story between a dwarf man and a woman. Shah Rukh will play the role of the dwarf man. The report suggests that the filmmaker is flying out to Meerut, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, today for a recce and will be there for the next five days finalising shoot locations.

“Certain parts of the film are set in Meerut so Aanand will spend some time there to familiarise himself with the culture and the people. They are expected to start rolling in the first half of next year,“ a source informed the tabloid.

Earlier, Aanand had admitted that the movie is going to be extremely difficult, both on emotional and technical fronts. It will demand a lot of hard work from the actor. The Tanu weds Manu director usually takes two to three years to complete a film and he is afraid that this will take even more.

Himanshu Sharma, who has previously written films like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa, has been roped in for this film. When asked if Aanand is apprehensive about taking King Khan to Meerut, the source said, “No, it won’t be a problem. It’s Aanand and small towns are his forte.”

Katrina and Anushka to play SRK's leading ladies in his dwarf drama
Hiren Kotwani | Jun 01 2017 : The Times of India (Mumbai)

Aanand L Rai's next has been making news ever since it was revealed that Shah Rukh Khan will play the protagonist -a dwarf. There was a lot of buzz around the film's two leading ladies, too.
While the names of Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma have been doing the rounds over the past few months, BT has now confirmed the news. This will be the trio's second outing together after the 2012 love triangle, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Aanand says, “I am at a point in life when I want to do something challenging. And, when you get an opportunity to work with actors like these, you don't want to miss it. All three characters have a newness about them. The film is not a romcom or a pure love story. It's about new-age relationships. I can't talk about Katrina's or Anushka's characters. While everyone knows that SRK plays a dwarf, there's a lot more to it than just that.“

While there's bound to be curiosity about the actresses' scenes together, surprisingly, the two don't come face-to-face on screen. However, Aanand quickly adds, “There is something that keeps them glued to each other. The story is such that one enters when the other leaves.“

So, was it tough convincing SRK to play such a physically distinct role? Aanand replies, “ As a director, you instinctively know what'll work with an artiste. I needed an actor who is very sure of himself for this role. Also, nobody can romance like him. On his part, he never had any apprehensions about playing a dwarf.“ Rai, who is known for making films rooted in reality , says that he's not leaving the zone. “The film begins the way I love to start my stories, but the way it ends is a first for me. I'm nervous and excited at the same time,“ he says. The movie will be shot in Meerut, Delhi, Mumbai and the US.

    rollercoast and phul thank this.
