She calls Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan family, but Shweta Verma doesn’t want to flaunt the connection. The Delhi girl, who is set to hit the silver screen with Bhindi Baazaar Inc. married Gauri’s cousin Rustom Tiwari in March last year, with SRK in attendance.

But Shweta doesn’t want him to give her an easy way-out in Bollywood. “Right now, I don’t want his help. He is a self-made person, and has created a place for himself in the industry minus a godfather. It inspires me to earn respect with my own work. Though I haven’t asked him for help, he has very kindly offered assistance,” she adds.

When visiting Mumbai, Shweta has stayed with the Khans quite often and calls them “great human beings”. “I am quite close to SRK, Gauri as well as the kids. So if I have talent and manage to prove myself, I think he’ll offer me work on his own,” she says.

These days, Shweta, who’s trained at Anupam Kher’s acting academy, would rather focus on Bhindi Bazaar Inc. “I play Simran, a simple girl,” says Shweta, who was also seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s 2007 dud Hide & Seek. “But I would call Bhindi… my full-fledged debut because I acted in Hide & Seek only because I was friends with the director.”
She admits that she picked up the tricks of the trade from co-stars Deepti Naval, Kay Kay Menon and Piyush Mishra. “Initially, I was a little scared about irritating them since they are superb performers. But they were really helpful,” reveals Shweta.

'I don't discuss work with Shah Rukh bhaiyya'

    SOUMITRA DAS, TNN | Jun 18, 2011, 12.00am IST

She is closely related to none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Her husband happens to be Gauri Khan's cousin.

However, model and actress Shweta Varma says that she never discusses her professional life with the superstar, "I don't discuss my work with Shah Rukh bhaiyya at all. They are like family and I am very close to him. But I want to establish myself first in the film industry and do something that makes me proud of myself. It's only after I prove myself that I will approach him for any advice related to my career. However, they are amazing human beings and have always been extremely supportive."

Very soon, she will be seen in Bhindi Bazaar. Talking about the film, Shweta says, "I play Simran, who is a fun-loving, girl-next-door. Given that the film has stalwarts like Kay Kay Menon and Deepti Naval, I was pretty scared. However, they are extremely down-to-earth and made things easier for me. While I did Hide n Seek because the director is a friend, it was a mall role and my performance went unnoticed. So, in many ways, Bhindi Bazaar is my first film."

Interestingly, this pretty lass was an airhostess for three years before she quit and started pursuing modeling. "It was always my dream to become an actor. When I went to Mumbai for six months, I got a good offer and became an airhostess. I quit because I wanted to fulfill my dream. I have done a lot of modeling in Pune and an acting course at Anupam Kher's academy. I think that it helps to do a course in acting. The technical things that one gets to learn help." she says.

So what are the future projects that she is working on? "I have just signed a film, but it's too early to talk about the details. I would also love to do a television show in the near future," she shares.

Asked about whether it is difficult for a married actress to balance her professional and personal life, Shweta says, "For me, it's been a cakewalk because my husband and in-laws have been really sweet and extremely supportive. I have been lucky that way."

zahra, Wafa, SRKdream and 1 other person say thanks.

    Gauri's loving it

    TNN | Jun 19, 2011, 12.00am IST

While we know that Shah Rukh Khan's better half Gauri prefers to stay away from the limelight, one person she's making an exception for is her bhabhi Shweta Verma (Shweta is married to Gauri's first cousin Rustom Tiwari).

The Khans had attended their wedding in Delhi. Shweta is debuting in this week's release. Gauri says, "Shweta is a part of the family and I give my best wishes for the film to her. It's really great to have one more actor in the family after Shah Rukh."

    zahra and Wafa thank this.

    sonal SRK's D&G lover!

i respect Shweta and what she's saying ... i mean srk made it big without any help and having someone like SRK as a brother in law can be an advantage but the fact that she wants to do this all on her own is really commendable.
    zahra says thanks.
